How To Keep the Next Generation

By Scott Pauley | August 29, 2017 | 6 Comments

A fellow preacher and personal friend asked me recently how I believed we could do a better job of retaining young people in our churches. It is a problem of epidemic proportions. The vast majority of young people are exiting the local church by the time they are eighteen. For many years I said to prospective youth workers that we must get young people connected to more than the youth group. It is my conviction that, as early in life as possible, young people must find their place in the church. It must be their church. The pastor must be their pastor. And some work for the Lord must be their ministry. This cannot begin when they graduate from high…

A Tribute to Pastor Sexton on His 50th Ministry Anniversary

By Scott Pauley | August 27, 2017 | 9 Comments

Along the journey God brings people across your path who will forever affect your life. He did that for me in August of 1994. In the good providence of God I enrolled as a freshman at Crown College in Powell, Tennessee. Little did I know the lasting influence that Pastor Sexton would have on me and my entire family. Like so many other students I listened, watched, and learned from Pastor’s example and exhortations. His “fireside chats” were the favorite. The powerful statements he repeated to us now flow freely from my own heart and mind nearly every day. When I graduated in 1997 he invited me to stay, work on a master’s degree, and help him with a few…

12730 Philippians SLIDE

This months resource is one of my favorites. In fact, it is my favorite book of the Bible! One of my instructors in college said that his favorite book of the Bible was the one he was reading at the time. Without doubt, all Scripture is wonderful. But many years ago I was challenged to adopt a “life book” and immerse myself in it. That book became the little New Testament letter of Philippians. I love this book for many reasons. Its theme is Jesus, and the joy that He alone can bring. It was the truth behind the name of our blog – Enjoying the Journey. It is the prayer of my life, that God would allow me to…

The Danger of Erasing History

By Scott Pauley | August 24, 2017 | 7 Comments

In 1948 Winston Churchill said to the House of Commons, “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Our own nation is in the midst of a revolution. An outright revolt against history. While not everything in our history is good, it is true. And only truth can guide us forward. The attack is not new. It is one of Satan’s greatest strategies: cause people to forget their past and you can affect their future. We have for many years seen a wave of “revisionist history” at work in our educational system. Rewrite what you don’t like. Now, it is even more pronounced. Erase it all. What is true on a national scale is also true on a…

Exciting Days – Our September Itinerary

Scott Pauley Bible Preaching Slide

“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). Not every day is the same. In fact, in itinerant evangelism, every day is different! The schedule changes. The surroundings vary. But one thing is sure: every day is a gift from God, a day to give Him glory. This is not only true of the “big” days, the public days. It is also true on quiet, hidden days. The Lord works on the most ordinary, mundane days of our lives to fulfill His plan. We often think of Paul preaching on Mars Hill or planting a church in some great metropolis. But what of the days where he simply walked…
