Enjoying the Journey
A Christian’s relationship with the Word of God does not end with Bible reading, but it does start there. The simple discipline of reading the Scriptures is a powerful resource in the daily walk of a believer. As I grow older my conviction in the power and sufficiency of God’s Word grows! This is indeed a miracle Book!
Last week someone related to me the testimony of a very nonreligious man who began reading the Bible every day out of curiosity. In a short time the Holy Spirit had softened his heart, convicted him of his sin, and he was gloriously saved. The Koran cannot do this. The Book of Mormon has no such power. The writings of Confucius never produces such heart change. The Bible is the Word of God.
Sadly, the Scriptures are often most neglected by those who profess to be followers of Christ. The Creator God of the Universe, the Savior of lost men, the Judge of all the earth wants to speak to us today! Are we too busy?
Everywhere I go I am trying to challenge believers to give a few minutes of their undivided attention to God’s Word each day. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom” (Col. 3:16). A revival of Bible reading is desperately needed in our day.
I am holding in my hand the most recent issue of the God Bless America magazine. It is a wonderful resource that I would recommend you get and read. In this particular issue I was asked to write an article on the subject of Bible reading. Would you take a moment and read it? To open a digital copy of the magazine click here. You will find the article on “A Revival of Bible Reading” on page 5.
When you finish, it is my prayer that you will join the 12 minute challenge and make a fresh commitment to the daily reading of the wonderful Word of God. May our prayer be, “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law” (Ps. 119:18).
