God Hates Abortion

A pastor that is being mightily used of God told me this week that doctors had advised his parents to abort him. Today I am thinking not only of the more than 1.5 million babies who missed the opportunity to live their lives but also what we have missed! Doctors, teachers, pastors, laborers, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters…never known. Never allowed to live. My heart hurts for the more than 1.5 million babies who never had the opportunity I have had. Three years before I was born Roe v. Wade was passed, legalizing abortion in America. How I thank the Lord for a dad and mom that never considered abortion! I believe we will meet an army of aborted people in…

An Exciting Announcement: Journey With Moody

The life and ministry of D.L. Moody has always been a great challenge to me. This humble servant of God knew the power of the Holy Spirit and was used to shake two continents with the gospel. Perhaps his greatest work was in enlisting others to work for Christ. The Lord used Moody to set so much in motion for eternity. I would like for you to travel with me this summer to the home and headquarters of this faithful preacher. On Friday, July 5, 2019 we will conduct a special heritage tour of D.L. Moody’s Life and Ministry. Our Journey with Moody will begin at his birthplace, continue through his ministry at Northfield, Massachusetts and Mt. Hermon, stop off at the great…

Our March Prayer List

Life is not about things “to-do” but about things “to-pray” for. Every event should be an opportunity to pray. The calendar should become part of our prayer list! As I look over our schedule week by week I am praying that in every place the Lord Jesus will be glorified, the Holy Spirit will have liberty, and the Father will be pleased. Would you join me in that prayer for the month ahead? Sunday-Tuesday, March 3-5 – Revival, Community Baptist Church, Lenoir City, TN, Pastor Ken Scoggins Monday, March 4 – Chapel, The Crown College, Powell, TN, Dr. Clarence Sexton Sunday-Tuesday, March 10-12 – Revival, Truth Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, VA, Pastor Erik Hastings Sunday, March 17 – Morning and Evening…

“Where Did You Get That Sermon?”

Every preacher is different. The same all-wise God who used the unique personalities and gifts of the Bible writers continues to minister through all different types of men. Over time a man learns how God speaks to him and how he best can receive and relay the Lord’s message to others.  Preaching day after day the Lord is teaching me much about myself and about preaching that no homiletics class or book on preaching can convey. You can take a text from anywhere in the Bible with confidence that it is the very Word of God without error. It will work. But do we not think that God would like to be involved in what we preach to His people?…

My Wife’s Ministry

My favorite traveling companion is the one that God is allowing me to make this journey through life with. Every place is better with her. Every day brighter. Tammy has been for the last nearly twenty five years my best friend, over twenty one of those as my wife. She is God’s best gift to me outside of Christ. Our first date was at a college Valentine banquet in 1995 and she has been my sweetheart every Valentine’s day since then.  When I travel to meetings without her the people always hear about her. It is easy to talk about the one you love. Sometimes people will ask about my wife’s ministry: Does she like to speak to ladies? How…

Loving What You Do

“Do you enjoy what you are doing?” I hear this question often. The answer for me is…absolutely! While there are challenges in every work, there is nothing as fulfilling as being in the will of God. There are many needy places around this world and one individual cannot go everywhere or do everything. We all must find God’s choice for us. The will of God for some will be an obscure village or a small town. God’s will is not done by our logical schemes and plans; it must be done God’s way. Philippians 2:13 teaches, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” God meets us along the path of His…

Help Us Pray!

This afternoon I am helping to conduct a prayer rally in the Akron-Canton, Ohio area. This meeting with churches from around the region is for one purpose: to set ourselves right with God and to seek God’s face for revival and the advancement of the gospel. Will you help us pray? Today’s prayer meeting is part of preparation for the God Bless America Rally that will be conducted here in Stark County, Ohio on May 1-4, 2019. I look forward to being back to preach in that meeting. But I am convinced that the preaching is in vain without the praying. The first meeting in the book of Acts was a prayer meeting, and all of the preaching and all…

7 Ways The Bible Helps Your Prayer Life

We all know we ought to pray more. We all want to pray more effectively. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if God wrote a manual on prayer? Indeed, He has! God’s Word is the most thorough, powerful prayer book in the world. If you want to be a person of prayer then you must be a person of the Scriptures. George Mueller’s life illustrated this connection. He prayed in provisions for hundreds of orphans and saw miraculous answers to prayer all of his life. The secret? He began every morning on his knees with an open Bible getting His own heart happy in Jesus and finding a promise He could claim that day. The more attention I give to reading and…

Reaching A Generation

We are all concerned about the direction of our communities and our country. It is easy to spend all of our time listening to the commentators and talking about how wicked the world has become. God’s people have a work to do – the one work that can truly make a difference. Only the gospel of Christ can change hearts and homes. All people need the gospel. My pastor often said, “You can’t witness to the wrong person!” People of every age and background need the Lord Jesus. Yet in many ways the heat of the battle for souls is to be found among young people. As go the young people so goes another generation. Satan knows this. Adolph Hitler…

Responding To The Critic

1801-16 Enjoying the Journey Guest Articles Slide

Dr. Mike Edwards served for 37 years as the pastor of the Heritage Baptist Church in Woodbridge, VA. He is a man of wisdom and a great encouragement to those who are serving the Lord. I am very grateful to call him my friend and happy to pass along this helpful article. He and his wife are now traveling in ministry, seeking to encourage other churches and couples in the Lord’s work. You may find more information on their work at sharepointministries.com. As a younger pastor I am not sure I was fully prepared for just how critical some people could be concerning my leadership and my service. After forty-three years of ministry I have now come to understand that criticism is part of the servant leader’s life. Ministry life is truly life in…
