Your Invitation To The Preacher’s Rest 2019

Rest is not a dirty word. It is, in fact, essential to all good work. God instituted rest before the fall of man. It is hardwired into creation and indispensable to man. Rest for spirit, soul, and body is designed to bring us nearer to the God who created us! If Adam needed rest before he sinned, how much more does man need it now. God’s people need the rest that only God can give. The Preacher’s Rest is not designed to merely give men a retreat. It is a meeting to help us find our rest in God – the rest that He gives in the midst of our labor. Preachers who are not tired are probably not working…

Guest Post: “Something To Nibble On Later”

1801-16 Enjoying the Journey Guest Articles Slide

Dr. Charles Keen has been a faithful pastor and missionary statesman for many years. At this stage in his life and ministry he is giving his energy to helping get the Scriptures into every language. I am always challenged by his passion. Each time I hear him preach or teach the Lord uses him to give me fresh perspective. I love to hear men who make me think! Dr. Keen is such a man. I am happy to share this brief article from his pen… In Mark 6:43 we read, “And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments…” We all are familiar with the phrase, “Would you like a to-go box?” This is another way of saying, “More…

Are You Still Running?

The other day a friend I had not talked to for some time asked if I was still running. Yes, my times have not been quite as good as I would like but I am still running. Travel schedules and winter weather pose challenges – but, if it is not one thing it is always another. The key is to put on the shoes again and just keep running. As I have reflected on our conversation the Holy Spirit has stirred my heart about a race that is far greater than any physical exercise (1 Timothy 4:8; Hebrews 12:1). New believers often come out of the starting block with great enthusiasm. They run! And then…they don’t. Are you still running?…

Welcome to Spring!

That’s right. No matter where you are or how cold it is, today is officially the first day of spring! The first of warmer, brighter days ahead…we hope. The seasons of nature are an amazing illustration of the seasons of spiritual life. Sometimes we all go through “winter” of the soul. Coldness comes. Darkness descends. Life seems to withdraw into hiding. But that is never the end of the story! Spring is coming. This is what revival is all about – life coming again. It was always there. The living sap flowing through the seemingly dead trees, waiting for the right conditions to draw it out. Does this sound like your soul? Divine sap, the living flow, the person of…

Who Was Patrick?

Tomorrow people around the world will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with little thought of the man for which the day is named. In fact, much of what is associated with Patrick is based on falsehoods… Patrick was not Irish – he was Scottish. He was not a canonized “Saint” of the church, but he was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. His mission was not to rid Ireland of snakes, but rather to preach the gospel of Christ. And the thing he would want you to remember has nothing to do with the color green; he would want you to know that Jesus Christ can change your life. The first time Patrick was in Ireland was as a teenager.…

Questions You Can’t Answer

Why did Jesus wait until He was 30 years of age to begin His ministry when He was so full of wisdom at the age of 12? Why did the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus only last three and a half years when He could have lived a long, full life? Why in those three and a half years did He not go everywhere, heal everyone, do everything He could have done? There are many things we do not know and some things we cannot answer. One thing is sure. At the end of His short life He said to His Father, “I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do” (John 17:4). So often sincere believers…

Finding Your Way

Frequently I hear it said of someone that he is still trying to “find his way” in life. Our world is full of aimless drifters and empty souls. Another toy. Another trip. Another lover. Everyone just trying to find their way – but, to where? Many people have traveled all of life on a certain path only to discover that it did not lead to the destination they had hoped. How do you find your way, the Lord’s way, for life? God has given us a guidebook for the journey. Only Scripture can show us the plain and right path. Bible principles point the way. Proverbs 22:6 is often quoted and rarely understood. Solomon, filled with the wisdom of the…
