Living On The Edge

“Living on the edge” is considered to be adventurous or dangerous, depending on your perspective. The person on the edge is close to peril. In fact, we are all living there! Every person alive is at this moment living on the edge of eternity. At any moment we may be face to face with a holy God. While such a prospect is a thrilling one for those who love Christ, it is a fearful thought for those who are not right with Him. Either way, the truth of our frailty and the nearness of eternity should serve as a motivator for us all. When I ask people to tell me their favorite book of the Bible the one I hear…

3 Ways To Use Your Lunch Break For God

We all love the lunch hour! A few moments of quiet from the busyness of the work day. The halfway point. And, most of all…the food! But have you ever considered how your lunch hour could be used for God? It could actually be the most important work you do all day – and the work that makes all the other work more profitable. Here are three suggestions: Use a portion of your lunch hour for prayer. At the very least we should pause to give God thanks for His provision. But perhaps there is a deeper conversation to be had. Lunch is often a time to catch up with friends or conduct business with associates. What if we took…

3 Times Jesus Wept And What We Learn From His Tears

Enjoying the Journey blog square

Several months ago I preached a message on the tears of Jesus. Our Savior was a “man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:5). This is more than mere emotionalism or shallow sentimentality – it is a reminder that He cares and that He carries our burdens. There are three times in Scripture that Jesus wept (John 11:35; Luke 19:41; Hebrews 5:7-9). Each is near the end of His life and each reveals what matters most to our loving God. He truly is “touched with the feeling of our infirmities” (Hebrews 4:15). His tears are a reminder that He loves sinners and cares for every soul. A few weeks ago I received a very kind email from a young…

Don’t Just Serve The Lord!

When the Queen of Sheba came to visit King Solomon it was not just his riches and wisdom that she observed with amazement. It was his servants. She noted, “Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom” (1 Kings 10:8). The joyful servants were a testimony to the king. When the world looks at the servants of God they should see the happiest people on earth. And this joy is not just for others to witness; it is for God to see. He rejoices when our greatest joy is serving Him. The God who knows everything is concerned not only with what we do but with why we do…

The Next Step On Our Journey

A dear man asked me the other day where we were going next in our “Enjoying the Journey” Bible study. It is a pleasure to walk through Scripture together and to know that many of you are making that journey with us! Here is a brief overview of our next steps… Today’s episode is very special for a couple of reasons. On one hand, it is a brief footnote to our 19 week study in the gospel according to Mark. In addition to that I share some exciting news about our journey to the Holy Land in 2020. We would love to have you join us as we study the Bible in the land of the Bible! Be sure to…

Journey To The Land Of The Bible With Us!

Have you ever thought you would like to study the Bible in the very places where it all happened? Just this week I read devotionally the account of Moses looking over into the Promised Land from Mt. Pisgah. I recalled what it was like for me, several years ago, standing in that same mountain range looking over into Israel. That Scripture has a whole new perspective for me now! Visiting the land of the Bible will help open the Bible to you. I am excited to announce that next year Tammy and I will be taking a group to Israel. This is a tour we have prayed much about and worked toward for some time. We are being accompanied by…

A Joyful Report

The last few weeks have been some of the busiest and most blessed we have seen in our evangelistic work. I know this is due to the Lord’s grace and the faithful prayers of so many people. With the intense schedule I have not posted as many articles as normal. We hope to return to that shortly! But I wanted to pass along a few answers to prayer and encourage you with what God is doing… The Lord has given a spirit of revival in a number of local churches in different parts of the country. I am often asked what we see frequently in churches. Right now there is a spiritual hunger among many of the Lord’s people. God…
