Enjoying the Journey

Today I am on my way to speak at a very special men’s conference in North Carolina. It is the last meeting of what has been a very busy month. God has been so gracious and we have seen Him at work individually in many lives and corporately in many churches. I thank God that He has been at work in me personally! Thank you for keeping up with us and praying fervently for the work God has given us to do. It would be a great joy to see you this month in one of these meetings… Sunday – Tuesday, March 1 -3 – Revival, Calvary Baptist Church, Spotsylvania, VA, Pastor Justin Spradlin Friday, March 6 – Youth Rally,…

As a boy my dad told me, “Son, there are two kinds of people in the world – givers and takers – and you’re going to have to decide which one you want to be.” I have lived long enough to know that there are more takers than givers. Which are you? Giving Living In Matthew 26 we find quite a contrast between givers and takers. On one hand there is the woman who broke her alabaster box to give worship to Christ and on the other Judas who took thirty pieces of silver to betray Him. Read the passage for yourself and you will discover lasting principles. One unnamed woman gives a pattern for us all: Givers are consumed…

Do you have a difficult time loving some people? Do you struggle to express love to others? Does it seem that even with those you love that your love falls short in so many ways? I am convinced that one of the greatest needs in families, churches, our nation is a fresh understanding and experience of the love of God. We live in a hateful world and people can be so very harsh. Only God’s love can cut through the hardness of sinful hearts. Some time ago we made available an adaptation of Henry Drummond’s classic work on 1 Corinthians 13. I hope you have downloaded your copy and read it through. You may even want to read it on…

It is amazing how sometimes the most far reaching things are the ones we did not plan at all. Several people have asked me recently how our daily Enjoying The Journey programming began. It was not a big idea or some personal vision. Instead, it was the providential work of God. A conversation. An open door. A friend to help. Isn’t it wonderful to watch the Lord at work? Now after two full years we are thrilled to see the daily growth of listeners both through the podcast platform and the radio audience. Over the last few days we have heard from a number of people who have started to study God’s Word with us and have written to tell…

This week I am preaching at the historic Sixth Avenue Bible Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY. This beautiful 150-year old church is the continuing fruit of a faithful man. Robert Lowry is now famous for the many hymns that he wrote. Great songs like “Christ Arose” and “Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus” came from his pen. But Lowry himself said that he would rather preach the gospel than write a hymn. He did both well. While pastoring in Brooklyn he helped to begin the Flatbush Mission – another gospel preaching station – which would later become the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church. Just across the East River in lower Manhattan stands the Bowery Mission. It was there that for many…

There is nothing in this world quite like seeing an eternal soul come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that Scripture teaches God’s love for all people and that Christ died for every person (John 3:16). Believers are privileged and responsible to share the good news of salvation with “every creature” (Mark 16:15). We should use every God-honoring means at our disposal to get this message out! One misconception that is common in a world of mass media and mass messaging is that somehow the majority of people will be saved through mass evangelism. Many people have a picture in their minds of a well spoken evangelist blowing through town and preaching dynamic sermons with great crowds…

Our world has some mixed up ideas about love! The devil and the flesh always try to pervert what is perfect. Only the God who is love can teach us how to love. God’s love is deep and wide. It is inexhaustible and infinite – because God is. It is greater than our sin. Greater than our conflicts and divisions. Greater than our prejudices and anger. The further we go with the Lord the deeper we enter in to His love. Today we conclude part 1 of our podcast series on the Great Journeys Of the Bible. (If you would like to listen to the first 25 episodes on the journeys of the Old Testament you may access the archive…

There is a lot of negative talk in this world. Social media has only amplified it. Sadly, many believers use their social media just like those who do not know God. Disagreements are aired for the world to see. Accusations are thrown flippantly. Complaining is the norm. “My brethren, these things ought not so to be” (James 3:10). Social media is not going away. For sure there are checks and balances that we all should place on the amount of time we give to it and the type of content we post on it. Perhaps the greatest thing we can do is learn to use it for good and for God. When social media platforms are engaged in things that…

God is at work in our nation. He is working in individual hearts and homes. The awakening of a country always begins with the awakening of God’s people. As I travel across our land I am encouraged by the burden many now have to pray and seek the Lord. In our own region like-minded churches are working and praying together now. This week I have spoken with a number of business people who want to see something happen for the cause of Christ. There is an increasing passion to get the gospel to the lost. This Saturday, February 8, 2020 a second God Bless America Rally Prayer Meeting will be held in southern West Virginia. More than 400 assembled at…
