Enjoying the Journey

Remembering

By Scott Pauley | May 27, 2013 |

Just a few days ago I had the privilege of being back where I grew up in West Virginia.  It was refreshing to walk around my grandparents farm again and enjoy a meal that only mom could make just right.  I walked the halls of the school that I attended from the time I was four until high school graduation, and spent an extra moment in the classroom where I first trusted the Lord Jesus as my Saviour.  Memories are precious things. My sister and I took a drive through the cemetery where all of our grandparents are now buried.  I have never missed them as I do now.  When we are young we do not fully realize the treasure…

My Greatest Need

By Scott Pauley | April 25, 2013 |

Every generation requires true men of God who carry on the work of the Lord in the power of the Holy Spirit.   An entry in the journal of Henry Martyn reads, “Let me be taught that the first great business on earth is the sanctification of my own soul.”  George Muller said, “The first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day was to have my soul happy in the Lord.” The first realization of ministry must be that we do not have the needed resources apart from a daily, vital relationship with Jesus Christ.  David Livingstone wrote, near the end of his life, of his relationship with the Lord: “He is the greatest master I…

Why this Week has been So Special

By Scott Pauley | April 20, 2013 |

Today is a day for rest and reflection after a very busy week.  We have just concluded our annual Baptist Friends Conference.  This is always a special time of reunion with friends and wonderful preaching.  This year was special. God grants special gifts every day.  Little do we realize all that He provides.  One of the most wonderful gifts God gives is sleep.  We live in a busy world.  God has designed sleep to renew the body and refresh the mind. Psalm 127:2 says, “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.” Rarely do we appreciate the gift of sleep until it escapes us.  Studies show that over 60 million Americans report difficulty sleeping at least a few nights each week.  Anxious care disrupts all rest…including sleep. Vance Havner, who went through a period of insomnia himself, told of an old…

How to Pray for a Special Meeting

By Scott Pauley | April 10, 2013 |

Today we begin our annual Baptist Friends Conference at Temple Baptist Church and Crown College.  Pastor Sexton and our precious people love hosting this meeting and seeking to encourage hundreds of friends in the work of world evangelism.  There are always so many people working hard to prepare for a meeting like this.  Yet we have learned that the most important preparation is not physical but spiritual. The greatest preparation is the work that is done in prayer.  Remember, when we pray GOD works!  We always have a 24 hour prayer vigil on the Friday and Saturday before the Conference begins.  For the last several weeks teams of our people have visited in all of our member homes gathering prayer…
