Enjoying the Journey

This is my favorite season of the year! I love the time with family and friends. But the older I get the more I realize that the greatest Christmas blessings are the ones that are wrapped up in Christ. Ones that are priceless and that do not change with the calendar. It is what Paul celebrated when he wrote to Philemon about, “acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ” (Philemon 6). The gift is Christ! The blessings are spiritual. As we study the Word of God we open those gifts, or rather, they are opened to us by the Holy Spirit. At this busiest time of the year beware of living so much in the fray…

Recently God has used a Bible verse in my life in such a profound way that I have chosen it as my “second half verse.” Along the journey there have been hundreds of Scriptures that have given me definite comfort, rebuke, instruction, and guidance. But there have been four verses that I have adopted as my own at different seasons of life. Tomorrow on “Enjoying The Journey” we begin a very brief series that means a great deal to me personally. There are only seven episodes in this series and I hope that you will join us for each of them. One word from God’s Word can change your life forever! Ask the Lord to impress a definite Scripture on…

Today we conclude our podcast series on “What The Bible Says…” I am more convinced than ever that this is a day where we must know what we believe, why we believe it, and how we can share it with others. If you missed any of the episodes you can listen to the entire study here. On Monday we begin a brand new series from 1 Thessalonians 5. It is one of the most practical sections in all of Scripture for a child of God. On one page we find The Lord’s “To Do” List for us. We live by lists in so many areas of life: reminders of what is important. The Christian life cannot be reduced to a…

Yesterday we published our quarterly family newsletter. (If you did not receive it you may read it here.) In it we released some information that I wanted to pass along to others regarding a new ministry phone number. It is my desire to help as many pastors and churches as possible. At this juncture I need some additional assistance in scheduling and working out details. The Lord is giving us a team of people who want to be a blessing as we move forward. We now have a dedicated ministry phone number. It is 304.712.9423. From that number you can request to schedule a meeting. Kimberly will be the person who helps to coordinate meeting requests with available weeks. You…

It is a joy to study God’s Word and a privilege to share it with others. More and more people are joining our daily Enjoying The Journey episodes and we are grateful for the Lord’s blessing. Nothing brings joy like meditating on the very words of the living God! “I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil” (Psalm 119:162). We have just completed a brief study of the book of Hosea. I am continually amazed how a message given to another people thousands of years ago speaks to our spiritual need today! You may listen to these and all of our archived studies at http://podcast.scottpauley.org. On Monday we begin a new series that I am praying will…

Several folks have asked me recently how we record the daily Enjoying The Journey episodes. Technology has made life so much simpler in some ways! I am able to record our broadcast on the road or at home using the tools that are now available. We have a wonderful group of people who work as a team to produce each program and provide them to radio stations and podcast platforms. I am truly grateful for those who have had a burden to help get God’s Word to others. Tomorrow we will conclude our current series on the life of Samson. This has been the most enjoyable study for me personally and many people have communicated with us about how God…

When I was a student in college, Dr. Frank Sells once challenged us to choose a “life book” – a book of the Bible to immerse ourselves in and to hide in our hearts. That book became the New Testament letter of Philippians for me. It has for many years served as both an anchor to keep me from drifting and a prod to move me forward.  Over time the truth of “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4) became the ministry emphasis of “Enjoying The Journey.” We all preach and teach out of the overflow of what God is teaching us. I love sharing with others the reality of joy that is found in…

Delayed. One of the most dreaded words in air travel. It glares in yellow letters from the airport monitors. The very word sounds like what it represents – a long indefinite period.  Few updates bring more downcast looks. Frustration rises. Immediately the questions begin to come…Why? How long? Is the new time accurate or just hopeful? What can we do differently? Will I make my connection or appointment? Whose fault is this anyway? Where can I get another cup of coffee while I worry? Pace if you want to. Fret if you will. Look for someone to blame. Join the ranks of those who are fussing about the inconvenience. But in the end we all just have to sit down…

One of the most exciting ways to study Scripture is to get acquainted with the great characters of the Bible. When you begin to identify with the men and women that the Holy Spirit emphasizes you find that there really is “no new thing under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9) and that “his truth endureth to all generations” (Psalm 100:5). The basic nature and needs of man do not change and neither does the character and care of God! There are a number of people who I have enjoyed reading after when it comes to the study of Bible characters. Alexander Whyte and George Matheson are authors from previous generations who bring out rich nuggets of truth. Of course, Herbert Lockyer…
