Enjoying the Journey

Did You Hear What God Did?

This week I had the joy of hearing a couple of reports that were overwhelming. In a world of bad news it is encouraging to hear of definite answers to prayer, spiritual victories being won. As a family we rejoiced in the way God is at work in the lives of people for whom we have prayed.

As I shared the good news with others I found myself saying, “Did you hear what the Lord did?” Oh, how that must please Him! We speak all to frequently about what we have done or about what others are doing. When was the last time you spoke of some definite thing that the Lord did?

This must have been the passion of the psalmist when he wrote, “This is the Lord‘s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes” (Psalm 118:23). How wonderful it would be if others looked at our lives and said such a thing. How do such things happen?

  • Pray specifically and faithfully for something only God could do and only God would get glory for! We have such a big God and pray such little prayers. You cannot expect too much from the Lord. He is the One “that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20).
  • When you see the Lord at work talk about it! Speak in faith. Share the good news with others. If you are going to run someone down, run the devil down! He deserves it! But lift up Jesus.

In Psalm 126 the people of God rejoiced in answered prayer. They said, “The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad” (vs. 3). But perhaps the most powerful testimony came from those who did not know God but witnessed Him at work: “Then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them” (vs. 2). Let your witness lead others to worship! All over town people should be saying, “Did you hear what God did?”

Today is the first day of a new month. Let it be a month of prayer, faith, and praise. When it is over may someone say, “Did you hear what God did?”
