God Hates Abortion

A pastor that is being mightily used of God told me this week that doctors had advised his parents to abort him. Today I am thinking not only of the more than 1.5 million babies who missed the opportunity to live their lives but also what we have missed! Doctors, teachers, pastors, laborers, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters…never known. Never allowed to live.

My heart hurts for the more than 1.5 million babies who never had the opportunity I have had. Three years before I was born Roe v. Wade was passed, legalizing abortion in America. How I thank the Lord for a dad and mom that never considered abortion!

I believe we will meet an army of aborted people in heaven someday. A loving Father, the God of life, holds them in His hands. In our current culture and political climate the discussion revolves around what individuals think about abortion. Opinions on every side of the issue can be found. But, what does GOD think of abortion?

Thousands of years before it ever became a great debate, a moral divide, a national disruption, our God spoke to this issue:

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that devise the wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among the brethren. (Proverbs 6:16-19)

An unborn child is the definition of “innocent blood.” Throughout Scripture we are repeatedly told that God hates the shedding of innocent blood. Those who do so have blood on their hands and will answer not to a judge, a media outlet, or a political party, but to God.

It is third on His list of things He hates. It is sixth in His original Ten Commandments: “Thou shalt not kill” (Exodus 20:13). Abortion hurts an innocent child. Abortion hurts families and the conscience of those involved. Abortion hurts society. But most of all, abortion hurts God. He created life and He alone should decide when it ends.

America is not the first to violently shed innocent blood. World history is littered with the ruins of nations who did the same thing. Did you know that His chosen nation, Israel, was guilty of shedding the innocent blood of their own children? They were the most blessed people in the world…

But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions. Therefore the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance. And he gave them into the hand of the Heath; and they that hated them ruled over them (Psalm 106:35-41).

If Israel did not escape God’s wrath, neither will we. He hates sin wherever, whenever, in whomever He finds it. God hates abortion.

What can we do?

  1. Pray for mercy and forgiveness for our nation. Ask the Lord for the spiritual awakening that must come if we are to be turned to God. A wave of iniquity should be met by a wave of prayer.
  2. Promote life. Those who capture God’s heart learn to love what He loves and hate what He hates (Psalm 45:7, Hebrews 1:9). Teach this to your children. Show them God’s truth. Vote righteously. Communicate with your legislators. Do something!
  3. Preach the gospel. Many now live with the guilt of having shed innocent blood. There is hope! It is found in the blood of Jesus Christ. His blood cries out for mercy. David, the man after God’s own heart, shed innocent blood, but found in the Lord pardon and forgiveness. God hates sin but loves sinners, and so must we. God’s love is holy love and God’s hatred is holy hatred. May God give us a revival of holiness and a return to truth!

Such a sad fact, but what a great article you wrote . What a truth is in the words, “A wave of iniquity should be met by a wave of prayer.” The power of prayer. Do you remember when Junior and JoAnn Lilly were expecting their son? They were encouraged to abort. Doctors told them of all the problems the little fellow would have when born. Junior and JoAnn were at the altar about every service and other church members gathered with them to pray. The baby was born without one problem . Praises to the Great I AM.

Our #6 child was considered a high risk pregnancy because of my age. The doctor talked to me about having an abortion. He was born healthy. Our son, age 31, is now a teacher and assistant basketball coach at a Christian school in Michigan.
