Enjoying the Journey

In times of need it is wonderful to know someone who has abundant resources. A friend may send you to another with the instructions: “Just use my name.” They mean of course that you have access to supply on their good credit.

I am convinced that most believers do not sufficiently appreciate nor appropriate our Lord’s name. His name is greater than every need! Recently as I read through the High-Priestly prayer of Jesus in John 17 I was struck by the emphasis He placed on God’s name…

I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word” (vs. 6). Christ came to reveal God’s name and nature to us!

Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name” (vs. 11-12). Believers are kept by the power of His name!

And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them” (vs 26). His love can only be known as His name is spoken!

If our Lord spoke the name of God then we should as well.

  • Speak His name to Him in prayer.
  • Speak His name to yourself as you meditate on Him through the day.
  • Speak His name to others as an encouragement and gospel witness.

The Lord is saying to us, “Just use my name.” There is power in His name!

For the last six weeks on our daily broadcast we have been studying “THE NAME” of God given throughout the Old and New Testaments. I hope you will join us this week as we conclude this series. Soon we will begin a new study but there is nothing more helpful than the power that is connected to His name.
