Enjoying the Journey
The highlight story in a major magazine carried this title: “Living My Truth.” It was the story of a transgender airline pilot who proudly boasted that he was now living his own truth. My heart broke as I read the words of a man who had believed a lie but had convinced himself that he was living in truth. This is a mark of an apostate age – people have turned from revealed truth (Romans 1:18-25; Jude 4-10).
When sin comes out blatantly and boldly it is not an expression of truth, it is evidence of rebellion. The fear of God is gone.
There is no such thing as “my truth” or “your truth.” There is only truth, and all truth has its origin in God. If we do not acknowledge His truth then we have accepted a lie.
God’s truth is revealed in CREATION. It is written in the very conscience of man and the order of all things (Psalm 19:1-6).
God’s truth is revealed in SCRIPTURE. It is written in black and white (Psalm 19:7-11). God’s truth could not be plainer.
God’s truth is revealed in JESUS. He is “the Word” – the very expression and perfect revelation of God (John 1:1). He is “the truth” (John 14:6).
There is no relativism with God. His character is unchanged and His commands are non-negotiable. We are called on to live His truth!
In the first recorded temptation of Christ the devil asked the Perfect Man to change stones to bread. Reasonable? Relatively innocent? It was not only an appeal to the physical first, but it was also an attempt to change something the Father had made for one thing into another. It was a perversion of purpose. It was a strike at the goodness of God, a God who gives bread when we ask (Matthew 6:11, 7:9).
Our Lord’s answer should be the answer to any question of what is right and wrong: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
The issue is not what I think, but what God thinks! Some thins may change, but truth never does. Live by His Word and live in His truth.
