Enjoying the Journey

My New Favorite Bible Character

Do you have a favorite Bible character? Each one has some message for us. They may serve as a positive example or a negative example. At different times, they may be both!

Over the last few months I have been spending a lot of time with John the Baptist. He has come alive to me. He is the greatest man born of woman according to Jesus. That’s quite an endorsement. Yet he had his struggles. Even his questions.

There are a number of wonderful things written about the life of John the Baptist. One of my personal favorites was written by F.B. Meyer. It has made me think of so many truths.

I have decided that our next “Enjoying the Journey” podcast series will be on the life of John the Baptist. His voice still speaks and his example still applies. I would like to challenge you to read what each of the four gospel writers have to say about the forerunner of Christ in Matthew 3, Mark 1, Luke 3, and John 1.

There is much more throughout Scripture and I look forward to studying it with you. Join us on your favorite podcast app or at scottpauley.org/broadcast. Next week we will begin “Journeying with John the Baptist” and I hope you will join us on this journey…

Alexander Whyte’s classic books on Bible Characters are an outstanding resource. Share your favorite Bible character in the comments and recommend any good resource you recommend on their life!

I’ve been wondering the last few days where we would be going. That will be great. Someone mentioned to me the other day after listening to the podcast that you were so easy to listen to. John the Baptist sounds like a great avenue to me. Bless you, Scott. The LORD has surely used you to bless many. Prayers for you.

I love F. B. Meyer. When studying the life of David, he made a scene come alive for me. His description of the valley of Elah, where David fought the giant is something I think about every time I go to that passage.
