A Fresh Look At Familiar Scriptures

“Why didn’t I see that? Where did that preacher get the understanding of that passage…and how could I have missed it?” Sound familiar? We have all had these questions. Perhaps you have had the experience of reading a well-known Scripture and suddenly seeing something you did not see before. This is the adventure of God’s truth. It was there all along, but there is always more to discover. Sometimes it is passages that are most familiar that are most neglected. We have read it hundreds of times. It could be recited from memory. Dozens of sermons have been given on the same verses. And, yet…could it be that there is more God has for us? The more I study the…

The Next Three Weeks

It has been a great blessing to me personally to meet so many people recently who are listening to Enjoying The Journey each day through the podcast or radio broadcast. God has been gracious to grow the reach of the Bible study over this first year. Many of you have been kind to let us know you are listening. Our most recent episodes have dealt with principles for finding direction and making decisions for life. (If you missed any of these studies you may listen to all of them in our archives.) The next three weeks we will continue this emphasis with a look at my favorite section of the Psalms – Psalms For The Traveler. The Psalms are beloved…

GUEST POST: “Finish Strong”

1801-16 Enjoying the Journey Guest Articles Slide

Kurt Copeland has been a faithful youth pastor at the Franklin Road Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee for many years. God has used he and his wife to make a difference in the lives of countless young people. His faithfulness is an example to me and his friendship an encouragement. You will enjoy these thoughts from his heart. It has been my goal since the day I started preaching to reach teenagers for Christ. Now, nearly twenty-seven years later, that goal has only gotten stronger. How can we effectively reach teenagers for Christ in today’s society? I have heard it said, “It’s not how you start the race, but how you finish that really makes the difference.” I do agree…

Thanks For Listening!

Eight months ago we took another step on our own journey with the beginning of the Enjoying The Journey podcast. God has been gracious to give us favor and so many of you have been very kind to join us. We have just crossed the threshold of 95,000 listens to the Bible studies! Every where I go I am meeting people who are Enjoying The Journey with us and emails from people in different parts of the world have been a great encouragement. Currently we are studying some of the prayers of the New Testament. Our cry is: “Lord, teach us to pray!” Near the end of September we will begin a brand new series designed to help people make decisions in the will…

“Lord, Teach Us To Pray!”

These words from Luke 11:1 are the prayer that opens the understanding to more prayer. How often we go through the motions and mechanics of prayer but fail to truly connect with Heaven. The adventure of faith, the thrill of communion with the God of the universe, the privilege of affecting eternity awaits…and we are content to simply recite our religious clichés to God! “Lord, teach us to pray!” No, Lord, teach ME to pray! As a preacher I am so deeply convicted that often I have given more attention and interest to what I will say in the pulpit than what I will say in the prayer closet. Believers at every age in life and every stage of maturity…

My New Favorite Bible Character

Do you have a favorite Bible character? Each one has some message for us. They may serve as a positive example or a negative example. At different times, they may be both! Over the last few months I have been spending a lot of time with John the Baptist. He has come alive to me. He is the greatest man born of woman according to Jesus. That’s quite an endorsement. Yet he had his struggles. Even his questions. There are a number of wonderful things written about the life of John the Baptist. One of my personal favorites was written by F.B. Meyer. It has made me think of so many truths. I have decided that our next “Enjoying the…

Q/A About Our Daily Broadcast

Last week we celebrated our 100th “Enjoying the Journey” episode. Yesterday we concluded our journey through the Old Testament. On today’s broadcast we are examining what God was up to between Malachi and Matthew. Soon we will launch into the next phase of our journey as we begin to walk through the New Testament. I love the Word of God and I love sharing it with others. If you have not yet joined us I want to give you a personal invitation to begin “Enjoying the Journey” this week! Here are a few answers to frequent questions… How did the broadcast begin? A local radio station asked if I would consider doing a daily morning program. I knew if we were…

Would You Join Our Daily Bible Study?

Today on “Enjoying the Journey” we conclude our study through the book of Philippians. I have heard from people across the country and even outside the U.S. who have joined us over the last few weeks. Thank you for taking time to listen! If you missed some of the broadcasts you may find all 41 episodes at podcast.scottpauley.org. I am excited to announce that this week we begin a brand new series of studies on “The Daily Christian Life.” God has designed the Christian life to be lived one day at a time, with daily responsibilities and daily resources. Over the next few weeks we will discover specific Scriptures that address the “daily” life of the believer. This will be a…

My Favorite Chapter of the Bible

Do you have a favorite portion of Scripture? One of my Bible teachers used to say that his favorite passage of Scripture was the one he was studying at the time. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable…” (2 Timothy 3:16). Jesus said it this way, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Every word. We need it all. And yet at specific places along life’s path you will find that particular Scriptures take on special meaning. Some of those will stay with you for a lifetime. Philippians 3 is that chapter for me. When I was just a teenager God began…
