News About A New Booklet!

Have you wondered in recent weeks what more you can do for your country? On this President’s Day I am excited to announce the publication of a new booklet, The Need of Our Nation. We all are concerned about the direction of our beloved nation and burdened to see a spiritual awakening in our day. This short volume addresses, from God’s Word, the core issue and the only solution. President’s Day was originally set aside to commemorate the birthday of the first president of the United States. For believers, it is also a reminder to pray for our president every day (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Every president is just a man, and like every man, he is a sinner in need…

The King Is Coming!

What are you expecting to happen next in our world? Every day brings new challenges and changing circumstances. I cannot tell you what the government will do, how the economy will respond, or when the pandemic will end. But what I do know is what the Bible tells us – The King Is Coming! God’s people should not be looking down, they should be looking up. Our future is not disaster but deliverance, and we are watching for the coming of our Christ, not the antichrist! Any moment the Lord Jesus is coming for His own. The last book of the Bible tells us the story of both the end of this world and the beginning of eternity with our…

THE NAME

There is no name like the name of our great God! The apostles said of the name of Jesus, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). We are told in Philippians 2:9, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name.” I say again: There is no name like THE NAME! The varied names and titles of God found throughout Scripture are full of meaning. They are more than identification – they are a revelation of the very character of our Lord. The name of God is connected to the nature of God. As…

NEW STUDY: “A Good Soldier of Jesus Christ”

There is a great deal of discussion now about peace around the world. At the same time, there is increased strife and fighting in our own country. But the biggest war in the world is being waged and few are talking about it. You will not find it in the news or trending on social media, but it is very real. It is a battle between light and darkness and it is intensifying at this moment. It is not a political, military, social, economic, philosophical, racial, or social conflict. It is spiritual. The enemy is angry and the conflict is as fierce as it has ever been. Satan knows his time is short and our Captain has promised us the…

Exciting News to Share

One of the great joys of serving the Lord is watching Him work in ways we could never have planned. Yes, we are “laborers together with God” and He has graciously allowed us to be participants, partners in His mission. But, in the end, all of us recognize that we are just along for the ride. He is doing the work and we are witnesses of it. Recently I told someone that it has been thrilling to see that the most blessed things I have been privileged to be part of were those things that were not my idea at all! God has a way of doing the unexpected and producing the unexplainable. Only He gets the glory. This is…

5 Books To Read As Commentaries

Frequently I am asked what Bible commentaries I would recommend. This is a broad question without an easy answer. Some commentators are better on some books than others. For example, if I am going to study the Psalms I would be sure to have Charles Spurgeon’s Treasury of David. I would not think of studying Philippians without Guy King’s Joy Way. And it would be very wise to have Andrew Murray’s The Holiest of All nearby as you walk through Hebrews. Personally I love F.B. Meyers expositions of Scripture and especially Bible characters. (Click here to view a good recommended book list compiled by Dr. Clarence Sexton on each book of the Bible.) There is not one book that is…

Next Stop: The Numbers Psalms

Life is a journey and the fourth section of the Psalms, known as the Numbers Psalms, shows us the goodness and guidance of God along that journey. If we want to move forward we must look up! At every twist and turn in life God’s Word provides direction to make right decisions. Today on our Enjoying the Journey broadcast we begin Psalms 90-106 with a study of the oldest Psalm in the Bible. I hope you will open God’s Word with us and open your heart to all the Lord has for you at this stage on your journey. Thank you for listening each day. It is a privilege to study the Scriptures with you. (If you would like to…

A Pause, Our Podcast, And The Next Psalms

Yesterday we concluded the first stage of our journey through the Psalms. The Genesis Psalms, Psalm 1-41, help us to see God as the beginning of all good things. I have greatly enjoyed the trip so far! Today we take a brief stop before continuing our journey. Along the path of life sometimes the Lord orchestrates rest stops, detours, and brief side trips. I am learning that these are purposeful and help to prepare you for the road ahead. One of the psalms we have just studied reminds us, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way” (Psalm 37:25). George Mueller said as he meditated on this verse the Holy Spirit…

5 Books To Read For Bible Study

The wisest man who ever lived said, “There is no new thing under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). That is because truth is never new – it is eternal. One of the dangers in our world today is the Athenian nature to always “tell, or to hear some new thing” (Acts 17:21). While there are good books still being written on studying and interpreting the Scriptures I have found that very often the most trustworthy ones are older books. They are proven. So please forgive me for only recommending in this list men who have been in heaven for awhile, but these have been the most help to me… How To Master The English Bible by James M. Gray (This classic…
