Christians, the Constitution, and Our Country
A few days ago I put a copy of the United States Constitution in my briefcase as I left for a trip. On board a flight I determined to read it through at one sitting, slowly and thoughtfully. As a Christian I am a citizen of Heaven (Philippians 3:20). In the words of the old song, “This world is not my home, I’m just passing through!” Yet in the good providence of God the Lord allowed me to be born in the United States. I am very grateful for the privilege of living in a free land. I am glad to be an American. Every blessing is also a responsibility. We are stewards of each gift God gives us, and…

Two months from today is primary election day in West Virginia. While I do not believe that politics is the answer for our nation, I am convinced that believers should not retreat from our political system. God’s people must do their part to be “salt and light” in the world. Christians should be the best citizens. Those who love truth should be most engaged in the public arena. It will decide the course of our Supreme Court and the laws of our land for generations to come. Christians should be the strongest and most concerned citizens in a nation. They should pray and they should participate. As Americans we are blessed (spoiled really) to live in a land of tremendous freedom and opportunity. We have much to answer to God for! Yes, Christians should vote in this…

Pop culture is the attitudes and ideas of “popular culture” expressed through music and current trends. It is, in many respects, the enemy of God and God’s truth. Popular culture is not new – it is Satan’s way of binding generations by convincing them to accept new norms that are far below God’s intent. Yet while we preach against the effects of pop culture, most believers and churches have been swept up into a wave of “pop Christianity.” The lines are drawn in different places, but the principle is the…
