The Gospel Answer to Racial Prejudice

Born in the 1970’s, I just missed the civil rights movement of the previous decade. My friends and I read about the injustices and racial tensions in our history books but, gratefully saw little of it in the area where we were raised. I thank God that my parents and those who influenced me modeled a love and respect for all people. Now, as my son is approaching adulthood, it seems that the racial divide has become prominent again in so many places. Our world is full of a hatred that could only be fueled by the devil who came to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). And only the love of God can cut through that hatred. When Jesus…

Cliques & Fraternities In The Church

One of the great stumbling blocks to the gospel and road blocks to revival is the party spirit that exists among many of God’s people. This is more than human nature. This is the devil’s nature – always to divide, to splinter, and to break up. This week I was preaching through the works of the flesh in Galatians 5 and the Holy Spirit dealt with me about this truth. How easy it is to identify another man’s flesh and how difficult it is to see mine! The most deceptive flesh is always my own. It hides. It excuses. It justifies. It parades in religious terms. The only hope of America, the only hope of any nation, is the mercy of God. In recent days we have all watched the national news and the deterioration of political debate into an outright spirit of anarchy. We are a divided nation. And only One person brings true unity. There will always be difference of opinion. One beautiful characteristic of our republic is the defense of individual liberty. We defend the privilege of others to disagree with us. True freedom defends the right of people to…

The Devil Doesn’t Need Our Help!

Dr. Lee Roberson used to say, “It takes no size to criticize.” Indeed one of the smallest things a man can do is to tear someone else down. Christ always sought to build men up – it is the devil who seeks to devour. There are many names used in Scripture for Satan. One of the last ones reveals one of his lasting strategies. In the Revelation of Jesus Christ, chapter twelve, and verse ten, we read: And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day…
