Armed For Battle

Main Slide Sharing Your Faith

The second Amendment of the United States Constitution states the right of American citizens “to keep and bear arms.” In 1791 our forefathers saw the need for people to defend their own liberties against tyranny. From the beginning of our nation an armed citizenry was connected to freedom. The goal was not death but preserving a way of life. What a vivid illustration of the spiritual warfare that believers are engaged in. The greatest tyrant of all, the devil, seeks to bring men into bondage and keep them there. Only the truth will set them free. And only those armed with the truth can help them. The gospel brings life. This is the picture given to us in Ephesians 6.…

A Fresh Start For Your Bible Reading

Just this week as I was reading God’s Word I noticed a reference that Jesus made to the reading of Scripture. In Luke 6:3 Christ spoke to religious people when He said, “Have ye not read so much as this…? Those who knew so much about God had failed to read some of the most basic portions of His Word! If they had read it, they had forgotten it. Or misunderstood it. Or failed to obey it. The point is: they needed to read it again! And so do we. All this week on our “Enjoying the Journey” podcast I am dealing with simple principles that will help us return to daily Bible reading. I do hope you will listen…

Special Announcement!

I am so very excited about the news I am going to share with you today! At the beginning of this year we began a daily podcast to promote the study of God’s Word. It is a joy to meet people who are being helped by the daily episodes. Friends have shared with me that they are using the podcast in their family devotions. Some are using it for Bible class as they homeschool their children. College students and working people have told me they have made it a part of their morning or evening commute. It is a privilege to teach the Bible to so many precious people. The first weeks of Enjoying the Journey were a study through…

A Scripture for 2018

Scott Pauley

Many of us have made definite commitments to give renewed attention to God’s Word in the new year. For me, that means something different every year. I try not to use the same reading schedule or plan. This keeps the routine from becoming a rut and helps me to approach it with fresh expectancy. I offer my plan for this year to you in the hope that some idea might encourage you in your own time in God’s Word… God led me to Psalm 119 for 2018. It is the longest psalm in the Bible. 174 of the 176 verses specifically reference the truth of God’s Word. And yet, I have discovered that this psalm seems to cover the gamut…

A Simple Principle That Has Had A Profound Effect On My Life

Dr. Frank Sells was one of my favorite Bible teachers. I can see him now, sitting on the platform, in his own conversational way showing some of the most powerful truths I have ever seen in the Word of God. Many of his statements were, as one author said, “velvet covered bricks.” They landed gently but made a huge impression on the life. In fact, I find myself quoting Dr. Sells almost every week. One of his famous statements was, “Truth is not found in the acceptance of one extreme or the other; often it is found in the acceptance of both.” One truth never cancels out another. Do we believe in the sovereignty of God or the free will…

How to Keep Yourself Stirred

One of the hardest things in serving the Lord is keeping your own heart stirred about the work you have been given to do. We all struggle with it. It is called flesh. Flesh is weak. Flesh grows weary. You cannot trust the flesh. It is not difficult to get stirred – it is difficult to stay stirred! Without a doubt, emotions will come and go. There is an ebb and flow to life and ministry. But the Lord’s laborers should work to stay enthused about the most important work in the world – God’s work. Some people run from meeting to meeting always trying to find the formula. Others depend on some motivational speaker or leader to pump them up, prime…

Getting More Out of This Sunday’s Sermon

Over the last few days I have been in numerous meetings where someone was preaching the Bible.  The messages were delivered by different men with varied styles, but in each sermon I heard the Voice of One far greater than the preacher.  When someone is preaching the Word of God it is the Spirit of truth that is speaking.  And there is nothing like hearing His voice. I was reminded of this recently when I arrived in another city to preach.  I was scheduled to speak second after a man who I did not know well.  Because of travel I came in a few minutes after the meeting had begun and took my seat in the auditorium.  My mind immediately…
