News About A New Booklet!

Have you wondered in recent weeks what more you can do for your country? On this President’s Day I am excited to announce the publication of a new booklet, The Need of Our Nation. We all are concerned about the direction of our beloved nation and burdened to see a spiritual awakening in our day. This short volume addresses, from God’s Word, the core issue and the only solution. President’s Day was originally set aside to commemorate the birthday of the first president of the United States. For believers, it is also a reminder to pray for our president every day (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Every president is just a man, and like every man, he is a sinner in need…

Your Christmas Prayer List

Is your Christmas shopping list complete? Christmas card lists, grocery lists, gift lists…tis the season for written reminders! What about your Christmas prayer list? At this time of year it is easy to grow overly introspective. In fact, that can even become selfishness. It is easy to fixate on your own family and contemplate only your own wants. A Christian Christmas will always consider others. The greatest gift you ever give is intercession. Your prayers can touch hearts and homes that you cannot even see. Here are a few suggestions for your Christmas prayer list… Pray through your Christmas cards. Take each card, note, picture, or gift as a prayer reminder for friends and family. “I thank my God upon…

Pray For A Preacher

Tammy and I are spending the day with a great group of preachers and their wives at The Preacher’s Rest. I thank the Lord for calling me to be a preacher, and I thank Him for using faithful preachers in my life. It is a pleasure to invest in precious servants of the Lord over these few days. Ministers are real people with real needs. They live every day on an active battlefield, and the enemy hates what they are doing. The fight is on and we can have a part! “Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God…

How To Pray For The President

Yesterday I opened the USA Today to find a full page ad with the names of a wide range of religious leaders calling for a day of prayer for our President. Sunday, June 2, has been unofficially declared a day of prayer for the President of the United States. I am very happy that many will be praying tomorrow. Believers should in fact be praying every day for their political leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-3). Regardless of who the man is or what your political position – praying Christians should be making intercession for the President. We can take the White House to the Throne of Grace! The question is: How do you pray for a president? Here are a few…

A President’s Day Prayer

Today is President’s Day in the United States. In the war zone that is the American political system it is often easy to forget the spiritual conflict that is always raging. The enemy of souls is far greater than any perceived enemy on the other side of the aisle. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). I have deep convictions related to our republic and the moral issues of our day. But it is more than politics. It is spiritual. The greatest need of our country is another great awakening and we must never lose that burden.…

7 Specific Prayers for the One You Love

Tammy and I are on our way to speak at a marriage retreat for the next couple of days. This week is, of course, a special time for sweethearts and I am truly grateful for mine. At Valentine’s day we often think more about the romantic aspects of love. Yet God’s love is the same at all seasons and it is much more than romance. It is reality. The greatest thing you can do for those you love is pray. Your words to God will accomplish much more than your words to them. There is an intimacy in intercession that brings God into every aspect of the relationship. Prayers recorded in Scripture provide a pattern for prayer. These Spirit inspired…

5 Things I Pray Before I Preach

Several years ago when I served on a church staff a college student came to me at the end of a service with an interesting question. He said, “I hear you pray publicly for the preacher when he is about to come with God’s Word. You always pray the same things for him. Why?” My perceptive young friend was right. There are specific things that I pray for those who are preaching God’s Word. They are the same things that I pray before I stand to preach. I share them with you in the hope that you will be encouraged to pray them for those who minister God’s Word to you, and pray them for yourself when you stand to…

A Special Prayer Request

small partner with us

I do not normally publish a post on the Lord’s day, but today I have a special prayer need to share with you. In just a few hours we will leave for India. Much prayer and preparation have gone into the next few days. Our team has been praying specific Scripture and definite prayers as we have prepared. Would you join us in these prayers? Pray that we will be clean, usable vessels (2 Timothy 2:21). Pray that God would give us safety and strength (Matthew 10:16-32). Pray for good ground for the gospel (Mark 4:20). Pray that the enemy would be bound and the Holy Spirit’s power would be loosed (Mark 9:23-29). Pray for much fruit – souls to…

In January we began offering a free downloadable resource each month. (If you missed the first one, a 30 day prayer guide, you may access it here.) This month we offer our second tool for believers… Praying for the Preacher Many years ago my pastor taught me that I could have a part in helping all of those the preacher ministers to if I would labor with the preacher in prayer. God will multiply the fruit of your prayers in the lives of so many people! Prayer is the greatest work. “Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf”…

Do This Today for the President of the United States

In my office at home is a bust of my favorite U.S. President. Since I was a boy I have admired the strength and gentleness of Abraham Lincoln. On a recent trip though Washington I made sure to drive our kids by Ford’s Theatre and the house across the street where Lincoln spent his last moments on this earth. He was a great American and a leader chosen by divine providence for his time. I am currently reading a brief biographical overview of each of the Presidents of the United States. They all differed greatly in personality, politics, and policies. One thing may be said of each, “God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another” (Psalm…
