Enjoying the Journey

Just For Preachers

I love preachers. It was my privilege to grow up in a pastor’s home. For eighteen years I served under a faithful pastor. Now, it is my opportunity each week to spend a great deal of time with preachers across the country. One thing I know to be true: God’s men need times of refreshing and encouragement. The battle is fierce. Flesh is weak. Demands are great. And only the Lord can give strength to press on. Vance Havner was famous for saying, “If we don’t come apart we will come apart.” His comment was based on our Lord’s words to His own disciples in Mark 6:31, “Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for…

A Guest Post And An Exciting Announcement

Pastor Scott Hooks is one of my dearest friends on earth. The work he has been chosen to lead in Hickory, NC is being blessed of the Lord in a wonderful way. In a personal way, God has used him in my life. I am pleased to share his guest post with you and to announce a new gathering for preachers that we look forward to co-hosting later this year. Enjoy the encouraging read and make plans to join us in September! After a long season of ministry that culminated with the sad news of the beheading of John the Baptist, the Lord Jesus spoke to His disciples saying, “Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while” (Mark 6:31).…

“Tell Me About The Great Churches!”

It is something I hear often. People are interested in the “great churches” in our generation. What are they? Where are they? Who is even qualified to say that they are great? Over the last thirty months on the road full time I have had the joy of being in hundreds of churches. Churches of all sizes and personalities. A church is a body – a living organism – and, as such, varies from place to place. Each is unique in some way. I have come to three conclusions about “great churches”… Every local, New Testament church is great because of the One to whom it belongs. The church belongs to no man. If it is a true church it…

Preachers Are All Different!

listen to bible messages from evangelist scott pauley

No two people are the same, and no two preachers are either. The gifts and callings of God are unique in the life of every one of His servants. It is a beautiful revelation of the wisdom of God and a reminder that He can use others who are not exactly like us. Over the last few weeks I have had the privilege to preach in a number of preacher’s fellowships. As I spend time with ministers of all ages and personalities I am reminded that the common denominator is not us but the Christ in us. Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?…Therefore let…

An Item for Praise and Prayer

Yesterday I had the privilege to speak to a group of pastoral staff men in the church where I am preaching. It was a joy to share with them truths that God and my pastor graciously taught me as a staff member. As I spoke to them I was reminded how truly grateful all of God’s people should be if they have a faithful pastor. Across this land there are hundreds of churches in need of shepherds to feed and lead the flock. If God has provided such a man for your family stop and thank the Lord today. What would it be like NOT to have a pastor? While you are praising God, write a note to your pastor…

Counsel to Young People and to Those Who Counsel Them

It is my privilege to work each week with hundreds of middle school, high school, and college age young people.  It is fascinating that the older I get the younger they seem!  Not long ago (in my mind) I sat where they sit.  Making decisions and seeking direction. Recently I spent several days just meeting with kids, listening, talking, praying.  Full of hope for their future, every one of them is in the middle of a season of decision.  Decisions that will alter the course of their life.  Perhaps I am more concerned than they are because I have seen so many poor choices and sad casualties. Meeting after meeting it seemed that the conversation returned again and again to…

7 Things to Pray for Your Pastor

Everyone expects the pastor to pray for his people.  But pastors need prayer too. In fact, they need much prayer. Their responsibility is great. Satan’s attack strong. We have made a practice of praying for our Pastor every day.  We pray for wisdom, for strength, and protection. We pray for his family. Hundreds of times over the last few years I have asked my Pastor if there was anything I could do for him, only to hear him quietly say, “A lot of prayer.” This is the desire of every true man of God I know. Listen to the words of 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13, “And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you…

Resources Just for Youth Workers

Today we had the privilege to host a number of youth directors on our campus at Crown College.  In the luncheon we discussed plans to begin a new youth fellowship for East Tennessee, the Smoky Mountain Youth Fellowship.  I am excited about the possibilities and encouraged to know so many youth workers with a heart to reach and teach Teens for Christ. We shared with these fine people a number of resources that have been designed to help youth workers in local churches.  I wanted to share them with you.  Take advantage of all that you can and feel free to share them with others.  We don’t have all of the answers.  (The longer I work with teens the more…
