Politics, Local Government, and Good Candidates
Two months from today is primary election day in West Virginia. While I do not believe that politics is the answer for our nation, I am convinced that believers should not retreat from our political system. God’s people must do their part to be “salt and light” in the world. Christians should be the best citizens. Those who love truth should be most engaged in the public arena. I am happy that two personal friends are running for election this year in my home state. Today is President’s Day in the United States. In the war zone that is the American political system it is often easy to forget the spiritual conflict that is always raging. The enemy of souls is far greater than any perceived enemy on the other side of the aisle. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). I have deep convictions related to our republic and the moral issues of our day. But it is more than politics. It is spiritual. The greatest need of our country is another great awakening and we must never lose that burden.…
