7 Rules for Getting More Done

I am happy that in the early years of my life and ministry I was put in a position where there was more to get done than there was time. Hard work never hurt anyone and my pastor was right when he told me that most people never become what they could because no one was ever hard on them. God’s servant said it this way, “It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth” (Lamentations 3:27). Through the years I have had to learn how my own mind works and when I am most productive. Through observation, instruction, and plenty of trial and error I have had to discover how to make my time…

September!

I have had a verse on my mind the last few days. Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.” We plan and prepare. We do our part, but only God can protect us and cause us to be victorious. Our lives and labors are in His hands. These are unusual days to travel and minister but I give God the praise for His constant care and keeping. He has been so very good to us. Last week Tammy and I dropped off both of our girls (!) at Crown College. We are very grateful for them and thankful that they have a place like Crown College to attend. God…

An Update On This Year’s God Bless America Rally

As many of you know we have been praying and working for some time toward a regional God Bless America Rally in our “Jerusalem” of southern West Virginia. 33 churches are laboring together for this gospel effort and there is a real expectancy about what the Lord will do! This is a pivotal time in our nation and people are searching. With the COVID-19 concerns large gatherings have become impossible for a period of time. The very people we want to reach – the unchurched and unevangelized – will be hesitant to come to any mass meeting for the next few weeks. Our door to door effort leading up to the crusade would also be very difficult. God has led…

The purpose of our itinerary is not just for information – it is for intercession! Would you take this month’s schedule of meetings and add it to your prayer list? The Difference Between Faithfulness And Routine

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2). We all want to be faithful…but what does that mean? Faithfulness is not a schedule; it is a spirit. There are many people who are present but not present. Fathers who are at home but not really with their family. Church members who are in the meetings but not truly engaged. Preacher’s who are going through the motions but have lost heart. There is a difference between faithfulness and mere routine. Vance Havner once observed, “A rut is just a grave with both ends knocked out of it!” Routines can become ruts. Ruts are death. Here is the real issue: faithful to what? Many a…

Don’t Forget These Things On Your Christmas List!

Everyone is busy this week. Shopping. Eating. Cooking. Eating. Traveling. Eating. Wrapping. Eating. It is easy to forget the things that truly matter in the hurry and haste. Perhaps you are working feverishly from a Christmas list. Would you add these things to your list this year? Don’t forget Christ. Remember it is His birth we are celebrating! Spend some quiet time communing with Him each day. Set aside moments for the Word and prayer. Tell Him you love Him and show Him by what you do with your time. Don’t forget your family. Is that possible at Christmas? Certainly. We can be so distracted doing things for them that we forget to be with them. Be present. Talk. Laugh.…
