How To Make The Most Of This Season In Life
Seasons are marked by change. The autumn leaves turning colors and falling to the ground are a reminder to us all that time is passing. And while we love some seasons more than others, God uses every season in life to bring us closer to Himself. He is the One who transcends it all – eternal, immutable God. I do not know what season you are living through at this time. While it may be bright and sunny outside it can be dark and gloomy within. When some are rejoicing, others are walking through their most difficult days. One thing I do know is that “He hath made everything beautiful in his time…” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). How can you make the…

That’s right. No matter where you are or how cold it is, today is officially the first day of spring! The first of warmer, brighter days ahead…we hope. The seasons of nature are an amazing illustration of the seasons of spiritual life. Sometimes we all go through “winter” of the soul. Coldness comes. Darkness descends. Life seems to withdraw into hiding. But that is never the end of the story! Spring is coming. This is what revival is all about – life coming again. It was always there. The living sap flowing through the seemingly dead trees, waiting for the right conditions to draw it out. Does this sound like your soul? Divine sap, the living flow, the person of…

This is the time of year when so many people become sluggish. Schedules are hectic. The newness of the new year has worn off and the freshness of spring has not yet arrived. Weather is wearying. Illness is rampant. Christmas vacation has long since vanished and summer vacation seems far in the distance. For all of you who have such thoughts and feelings (like we all do at times!) I share two simple words: PRESS ON. That’s it. Sometimes the greatest thing you do is simply put one foot in front of another. Be faithful. As the old retired marine in our church used to say, “Stay at your post of duty.” PRESS ON. God has His eye on you.…

Christmas and New Year are a time for family and fun. But for a believer it is a season of faith. A time to turn our eyes to Christ and to His work in our lives. The holidays are to be more than a time for festivity. They are to be a time of reflection and worship. In fact, the word holiday comes from holy day. (Read more about that here.) Appropriately this season is celebrated just before the dawn of a new year. The older I get the more this season becomes a time of reflection and preparation in my own heart. ‘Tis the season to be jolly? ‘Tis the season to search your heart! ‘Tis the season to…

My favorite season has arrived. Fall is officially here. This year our family is celebrating the changing of the leaves in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. It is a new season of life and ministry. So many of you have prayed and encouraged us this year. Thank you for your friendship. A few days ago I had the privilege of preaching at Cranberry Baptist Church in Beckley. This is the church my dad has pastored for the last twenty-six years, and the church that first sent me off to Crown College over twenty-two years ago. It is an honor to have them now serving as our sending church. Tammy, Morgan, Lauren, Grant, and I are honored to be part…

Fall is my favorite time of the year. At least in the fall! I actually love all of the seasons and am blessed to live in a part of the country where there are four very distinct seasons. The older I get, the more I enjoy the change of seasons. It reminds me so much of life. Football season has arrived (not one of the four, but important nevertheless). Soon the leaves will begin to change here in East Tennessee. The foothills will be alive with color. And then they will be gone, and another season will come. It is interesting that this is the word God chose to use to describe all of life. “To every thing there…
