5 Books To Read About Jesus (And One Bonus)
For at least one day this week people thought of Christ. We have just come through Easter and much of the world has considered the story of Jesus and the resurrection. But the person and work of the Lord should not be examined once a year – He should be pursued every day! There is so much more of Him to know and admire. You never exhaust infinite truth. Most people look better at a distance. Not so the Lord Jesus Christ. The closer you come to Him the more of His beauty and wisdom and grace you see. The more you investigate the more you will be attracted to the perfect Christ! Once again it goes without saying that…
Read MoreOne Word Can Make A World Of Difference – Helps for Bible Study
I remember well the first Bible word study I ever did. It was an easy word. I already knew what it meant…or at least I thought I did. On that day one word opened up one of the greatest principles in Scripture to me. The word is found in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” A world of truth is found in that verse. A world of truth is found in one word: confess. I imagined as a very young man that confess meant to plead with God, to convince the Lord that I was sorry, to beg for His forgiveness. But…
Read MoreA Story That Changed The Way I Look At The Bible
Below is one of the longest posts I have ever made and yet it will be one of the most enjoyable reads. As a college student, learning to learn, I was introduced to an old story that made a powerful impression on my life. It has helped me to study, to think, to meditate, to look. Though the setting of the story is not a Christian one, the principles found in it will help you to become a better student of Scripture. Take the time to read it and you will never read your Bible the same again… It was more than fifteen years ago that I entered the laboratory of Professor Agassiz, and told him I had enrolled my…
Read MoreA Bible Teacher
Most Sunday mornings I am asked to address a combined Sunday School class or spend time with a particular Bible study group. This is always something I enjoy doing and is a little more informal than the preaching services. Recently I began a special meeting on a Sunday morning and the pastor asked if I would be willing to sit in a class with him. “You do not have to speak. I just want you to hear our teacher,” he said. It was one of the most refreshing and encouraging hours I have had in a long time. The Bible teacher had taken an online class with me long ago, but we had never met in person. As I sat…
Read MoreA Poem, A Principle, and A Prayer
When I was in college someone gave me a copy of an anonymous poem about the Bible as God’s revelation of Himself. Today we begin a new podcast series called “Journey Through the Scripture.” My prayer is that we all will come to know the written Word in a greater way, and through this journey, we will come to know the Living Word more personally. Bible study is not about knowing things; it is about knowing Christ. I thought you would like a copy of the poem for yourself. I hope it, and the daily studies, will be a blessing to you… I see my Lord in the Bible, Whenever I chance to look. He is the theme of the…

I am so very excited about the news I am going to share with you today! At the beginning of this year we began a daily podcast to promote the study of God’s Word. It is a joy to meet people who are being helped by the daily episodes. Friends have shared with me that they are using the podcast in their family devotions. Some are using it for Bible class as they homeschool their children. College students and working people have told me they have made it a part of their morning or evening commute. It is a privilege to teach the Bible to so many precious people. The first weeks of Enjoying the Journey were a study through…
Read MoreWill You Join Us On the Journey?
Six years ago this month I began writing on our blog. At the time God led me to call it Enjoying the Journey. (You may read more about why I chose that name here.) Now, on the threshold of a new year, we are taking another step on that journey. We are launching a daily podcast. There is nothing I enjoy more than teaching and preaching the Word of God, and now we have the opportunity to spread that message to many more people. The Enjoying the Journey podcast will be available Monday-Friday. It is a 10 minute Bible message that I am praying the Lord will use. In the first episodes we begin with a study of my favorite book of the Bible,…
Read MoreThe Greatest Method of Bible Study
Weeks ago I received a message late one evening from a fine teenager in our youth group. This young lady has been a great encouragement to me and my wife. She is growing in the Lord and serious about knowing Him better. Her message was to the point: “I have been reading the Bible but I don’t know how to study it. Can you help?” My mind flooded with ideas and suggestions – all helpful things. We have an entire college class at Crown College on “Methods of Bible Study!” But how could all of that be conveyed to a senior in high school in a brief period of time? Could it be that the greatest method of Bible study…
