A Message Christian Young People Desperately Need
It is my privilege to speak to young people on a regular basis. I have to admit that they are my favorite group to preach to! You always know where you stand with teenagers. My heart is always stirred as I look into their faces and consider the potential in every one of their young lives. More and more as I look into the eyes of Christian young people I see a sense of apathy. Resignation. Defeat. Could it be that the enemy has successfully convinced an entire generation that their world is too far gone? Their lives too insignificant to impact 7 billion people? The condition too bad for them to make a difference? The devil is a liar.…
Read MoreVictory Over Temptation
We all want to live in victory over sin. The key to victory over sin is learning victory over temptation. “Resist small beginnings”, a wise man once said. Deal with the seed and you will not have to overcome a forest of sin’s consequences. Temptation is a fleshly assault by the enemy. He appeals to our lust, our pride – our flesh. It is impossible to combat fleshly temptation with the energy of the flesh. Pastor Sexton has often said that you must deal, not only with the devil, but the devil’s friends! She is growing in the Lord and serious about knowing Him better. Her message was to the point: “I have been reading the Bible but I don’t know how to study it. Can you help?” My mind flooded with ideas and suggestions – all helpful things. We have an entire college class at Crown College on “Methods of Bible Study!” But how could all of that be conveyed to a senior in high school in a brief period of time? Could it be that the greatest method of Bible study…
Read MoreWhy this Week has been So Special
Today is a day for rest and reflection after a very busy week. We have just concluded our annual Baptist Friends Conference. This is always a special time of reunion with friends and wonderful preaching. This year was special. I cannot remember a meeting where the Lord’s presence was so strong. Day after day and message after message the Holy Spirit worked in our hearts. It was a deep work – convicting, searching, teaching. God was among us. As I have thought on what made this year’s conference so special, one thought seems to keep surfacing. It was all about the Lord Jesus Christ. It was not the preachers. This conference was not a preaching competition or a platform to…
