I love America. God has been gracious to our land and I thank the Lord for the privilege of being born in this country. Like so many of you, I am burdened about the spiritual condition of our country and praying that there will be real repentance and revival at this critical time. The sad reality is that a whole generation of young people are growing up without ever hearing the spiritual foundation and true history of our nation. And it’s not just the children! Today is President’s Day in the United States. In the war zone that is the American political system it is often easy to forget the spiritual conflict that is always raging. The enemy of souls is far greater than any perceived enemy on the other side of the aisle. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). In my office at home is a bust of my favorite U.S. President. Since I was a boy I have admired the strength and gentleness of Abraham Lincoln. On a recent trip though Washington I made sure to drive our kids by Ford’s Theatre and the house across the street where Lincoln spent his last moments on this earth.
