Enjoying the Journey

“Thank You, God, For 13 Years”

Today is my son’s 13th birthday. We have had a wonderful time celebrating this week as a family. How could we have three teenagers?!

I asked Grant to lead us in prayer for our meal the other night. Near the end of his prayer he said, “Thank you, God, for giving me 13 years.” It was a simple statement. It made a profound impact on me.

Indeed, God is the One who gives us every year…every day. And we should be grateful for every one of them.

As a dad I was encouraged by his prayer. As a Christian I was convicted by it. How often do I pause just to thank the Lord for life? He gave it. He alone sustains it.

I thank God today for giving us 13 years with our son. I thank God for each of our children. Our lives are in His hands. He has been exceptionally good to us.

Praise the LORD! Happy birthday to Grant.
Every breath and heartbeat is a gift our heavenly Father chooses to give us. It says in Psalm 104:
These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season. That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

A Happy Belated 13th Birthday, Grant!!! Isn’t it just like the LORD to convict and bless us with one sentence? To convict our hearts for failing to thank HIM for the blessing of life. Yet, HE causes your heart to be overjoyed and thankful that your child knows the Giver of life and from Whom all blessings flow. Conviction, a blessing from the LORD.
